Kerala PSC Makes Exams Objective

KPSC decided to conduct all the examinations as objective tests. This new decision is also for the PSC teacher tests as college lecturer, HSST, HSA ... The rank list for the teacher posts for the government educational institutions will publish by KPSC on the basis of the OMR test and interview. This modified decision will become practical on wards the next notification of HSST and HSA...

The earlier decision of PSC on this matter was to conduct objective test first and the descriptive test for the qualified candidates of the first OMR exam. But now PSC decided to avoid the descriptive test completely. The main reasons for this are following:

The expense for the descriptive answer sheet valuation is very high. It also delays the publishing of the rank lists. KPSC had spent 12 lakhs rupees for the valuation of the Deputy Collector descriptive type answer sheets. Besides the financial burden there were many complaints about the valuation procedure. The main complaint was that the descriptive answers cannot value specifically. It will influence by the difference of each person evaluate the answer sheets. The candidates argued that there may be many mistakes in the descriptive test than the objective exams. KPSC took this new decision to avoid the descriptive type questions from the question paper of all PSC tests to reduce the above problems.

The merits of the objective type question paper are following:

The answering will be highly specific. There is less probability for guessing. The valuation will also become transparent. Each right and wrong answer will get and loss specific mark. But in the case of the descriptive questions the answering and valuation will not be specific and it may be affected by the mental status and knowledge level of the valuator.
